It is with deep sorrow I learn from Tim Blair that our friend Amanda Malkovich has died.
It was my great fortune to have known Mandy; first as pen pals, then as occasional drink & think companions at the Ten Cat in Chicago. I was always honored whenever she and her sister Becky dropped by one of my house parties.
Smart, literate, and intense, Mandy led an amazing (if brief) life; experiencing careers as a teacher, newspaper reporter and TV producer before working as a private investigator in Chicago. She had an effortless way of commanding one's attention, and in every conversation taught you something valuable. And, like her better-known brother John, she was unapologetic about her patriotism.
My deepest sympathies to the Malkovich family for their terrible loss.
Goodbye Mandy, you will be missed.
