Oh frabuous day, caloo calay! The budding branches and blossoming tulips herald the most anticipated event on the eco-calendar: the Iowahawk Earth Week Virtual Cruise-In! It's your 4th annual opportunity to show the interwebs that you know how to burn carbon offline, too. Send me a picture of your street rod, cycle, sports car, drag boat, luxury jet, pull tractor, mud thumper, short, bobber, hooptie, ranfla, any which way you like for getting from A to B, and I'll get that sucker posted up for the whole Iowahawk community to enjoy. The only guidelines are that (1) the entry belongs to you, (2) there's something at least moderately interesting about it. Be forwarned: bring your A game, because previous editions have set a mighty high bar -- like inaugural cruise winner Preston Peterson's badass, homebuilt, road racin'-street racin' '67 'Stang from Seattle...
...followed by 2007 champion John Brossard and his 14,000 horsepower Alabama rocket truck...
...or 2008 Winner David Archibald from Perth, Western Australia, and his twin-engined, 1300 horsepower bass fishin' boat. In fact, David's win made such a splash it merited above-the-fold coverage in the Western Australian, Perth's top fishwrap, as well as some editorial space therein to debunk some environmental superstitions. Good onya, mate!
To kick off this year's edition, here's a video sent in by my ol' pal Gale Banks: bench racing with Jay Leno about his Banks Sidewinder diesel drag truck, which is already stomping quarter mile ETs in the high 7s at over 170 mph. And guess what? It actually is good for the environment, making less pollution than a Vespa -- and, as Gale notes blithely, "it get 40 miles per gallon."
So come on, gang, let's get out there and honor Mother Earth -- the Ultimate MILF™. Send your entry to the email link on the left, including pictures and brief description. Posting will commence in a few days and run through the end of the month, with winner announced on April 30. Grand Prize: A free lifetime supply of Iowahawk Carbon Credits!
