Coop took in the Grand National Roadster Show at Pomona the weekend before last, and managed to squeeze off a few nice shots at the "Suede Palace." The Suede Palace was established to provide a place for traditional low buck, homebuilt hot rods and customs, but in my opinion some of these kick the ass of any of the gazillion dollar hoopties in the big hall. Case in point: this Studebaker P/U belonging to Bobby Green, and the "Live Wire" A Coupe of Bobby's THEM! club mate Piero. And not just because we're old pals. I'm a sucker for late 50's - early 60's style show customs, and these two cars are about as fine examples of that vibe as you'll see.
My old man's boss, who owns a body shop, is building himself a '53 stude. He put the same wheel covers on it as those shown on the stude p/u above ... 'cept he's got bright yellow dots in the middle of his (can't tell for sure, but the spots in the middle of the p/u's covers look like they're painted to match the body color). The yellow dots contrast against his midnight blue paint on the car something aweful. I told him they look like giant pus-filled zits.
