Don't worry. Before taking a dip in the Grotto I will make a quick sweep with my trusty portable blue light to avoid possible exposure to residual DNA material from Bill Maher or Leroy Neiman. As this photo from from the '07 show by our friend Bill Bierman attests (the pink hoopty is Bill's "Freakshow" truck) -- a swell time is anticipated.
But that's not all! Also planned is a stop at Bobby Green's Old Crow Speed Shop in Burbank to congratulate him and Crew Chief Lucky Burton on another world land speed record. Bobby and Lucky just got back from World Finals at the Bonneville Salt Flats where the Old Crow belly tanker busted its own record in the V4/BGL (vintage 4 cylinder blown gas lakester) class as well as setting a new mark in V4/BFL (vintage 4 / blown fuel lakester). 150+ miles per hour -- not bad for an 80 year old Model A four banger! Well done, gentlemen! As time allows I will also be enjoying many frosty Coors at Bobby's latest LA watering hole, Stinker's Truck Stop on the east end of the Sunset Strip. While in LA I will also be picking up this ginchy patriotic piece of pen and ink art by my buddy Coop, base on his famous helmet painting. Unfortunately he won't be in town, but has a valid excuse -- he's off to Mexico to race in the Carrera Panamericana.
Also on the agenda: stops to see Gale Banks, our buddies at Galpin Auto Sports, and breakfast cocktails with some familiar LA bloggers. Stay tuned, reports coming!
