2008 Earth Week Cruise-In Part 2
Keep those entries rolling in! With temperatures struggling to hit 40 degrees F in Chicago today, Gaia needs all the carbon she can get. Email link to your left.
As a prelude to batch #2, here's some vintage drag racing action I shot at Great Lakes Dragaway during our last decent weather -- September 2007. SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
From the inscrutable Orient, reader Michael Woods writes:
I live over here in South Korea and have a fine stable of vehicles.
1) Aston Martin DB7 Convertible, complete with 6.0l V12 and the excellent average fuel consumption record in city traffic of 36l/100kms or circa 6.5miles per gallon.
2) BMW M3 Coupe, with 3.2l straight six revving out to 8,000rpm and the average fuel consumption in city traffic of 21l/100kms or circa 11 miles per gallon.
Well, Michael-san, my math says 6.5 + 11 = 17.5 MPG, and that's not half bad. Especially if it's powered by fermented bio-kimchee!
Texan Michael Rittenhouse offers up his classic swing axle Nader Nightmare:
"Scooter," as I have dubbed this survivor, drips enough oil to have poisoned all of Texas' aquifers.
I keep my garage clean with a puddle pad, though.
Good call, Michael! Because cleanliness is next to godliness, which is cattywumpus to Gaia-ness.
Avast, ye landlubbers! Floridian Dick Wiley likes cruising the intracoastal in this multi-engine beauty:
Last year an unusual car was my contribution to 'Cruise'. This year I submit my real cruiser. It has 2 Chevy 350 fuel injected V8's. When we brought her up from Florida to Arkansas we did our part by burning nearly 1500 gals of 93 octane. What a fun trip!
Canucklehead John Heinrichs shows how he and his mates in the Canadian Army roll in Afghanistan:
Can this qualify? Tanks from my Regiment out for a morning drive.
Sure thing, hoser! I'd add that these German-French Leopards show that even the Euroweenies can stomp an impressive carbon footprint when they put their minds to it.
